The Solo Cannon is a portable speaker that offers many different ways to enjoy music, you can use Bluetooth to connect it to your phone, an aux cable for devices without Bluetooth, insert a memory card to listening to music stored on the card or just use it as an FM radio.
The Solo Cannon is one beautiful looking speaker. It has a cylindrical shape with a curve that goes inwards towards the middle. It’s coated with a premium steel that runs around most of the outer body. On the front of the speaker is a set of four buttons which are as follows:
- Mode button
- Play/Pause/Take call button
- Volume down/Previous track button
- Volume up/Next track button
Just to the left-hand side of these buttons is a built-in microphone for handsfree phone calls.
Around the back of the speaker are several ports, the power switch and a status LED. The ports are as follows:
- MicroSD slot
- MicroUSB port
- AUX in port
At the top end is the grill that covers the main speaker driver. It’s a black grill with tiny circular holes pierced into it. The bottom end is home to a circular rubber foot for preventing the speaker from falling off a surface due to vibrations.
Setting this up with my phone through Bluetooth for the first time was a very quick and easy job to do. I have done it many times for different devices and it’s pretty much the same principle across each device. If you haven’t ever done it before, don’t worry as the manual has a clear and easy to understand four-step set of instructions.
All the other modes are rather simple and easy to use. Again the instructions in the manual are very clear and easy to understand.
Something I really love the sound of but haven’t had a chance to try as I only have one of these is the Stereo mode, where you can connect two of these speakers together to create a stereo system for your Bluetooth-enabled device.
This speaker comes with a built-in 1000 mAh Li-Polymer rechargeable battery. This is capable of delivering up to 6 hours of audio playback. This, of course, does depend on a few factors such as volume and mode in use. For me, I found the speaker to last roughly about 4 hours at full volume and about 6 hours at lower volumes. The battery is in my opinion not as good as it could be, I think it should, at least, last about 10 hours at tops.
In terms of audio quality, this speaker really packs a punch considering it only has one driver. The sound is clear, crisp and overall brilliant. The bass is really good and in songs with heavy bass you can actually feel the surface the speaker is on vibrating. For something that not very big, that’s very impressive. I have tested it using many genres of music and it seemed to handle the different properties of each genre very well. At full volume, the sound remains distortion free.
The built-in microphone is also fantastic and does a great job of picking my voice up clearly and then portraying it to the listener. In my test phone call, the person I was talking to was able to hear me very clearly.
A gorgeous looking speaker, that packs a small but powerful 6W driver. It’s easy to use and full of plenty of awesome features.
