Design:
Rather than being one already built-up toy this is actually 52 different bits that can be stuck together through the power of magnets to create a variety of different things. The set has several different coloured shapes, number cards and even a Ferris wheel stand if you decide to make a Ferris wheel. Each of the shapes has several magnetic points which allows them to be connected to one another in order to make 3D shapes, which can then be put together to make many different things. There’s a booklet included that shows you what you could make as well as how to make the Ferris wheel. You can also look on Youtube for ideas and instructions on how to make many other things . There are also number cards which can be used to create an educational experience with your child.
I’m going to focus on the main point of this set and that’s the Ferris wheel kit. To make this you will require a few of each of the following shapes from the kit:
- Triangle
- Square
- Hexagon
- The Ferris wheel stand set
Putting all of this together is really easy and takes only a few minutes. Once these shapes are put together following the instructions you are left with a cool looking Ferris wheel that lights up and plays music. To use the lights and music feature you will require 3 AA batteries which aren’t included.
The funtertainment test:
Okay ‘funtertainment’ isn’t a real word but for the purpose of toy reviews, this is where I give my feelings on how much my son and even myself enjoyed playing with this toy.
I have sat down on several occasions with this toy and my son to see what we and he himself could produce and also what he could learn from it. Each time we have sat down with this toy my three-year-old has really enjoyed the experience of not only playing with each of the shapes but also building them into many different things from houses to animals and even vehicles (I should point out this set doesn’t include wheels like other sets I have reviewed so we borrowed the wheels from another set). The possibilities have been endless and I can really tell my son has accessed his imagination to create all sorts of wonderful things although given his age he hasn’t yet built anything too advanced . For me as a parent, this is brilliant as it gives me the confidence to know his development is coming on well.
Not only has he built things on his own, we have sat and built things together and played for hours and hours afterwards with the things we have built before moving on to building something else. We have also added the included number cards into our creations and from there I have sat with him as he learns numbers from the toy. Not only has he learnt numbers from this set, he has also learnt shapes and colours. So this has led me to dub this toy as both ‘funtertaining’ and ‘edutaining’ both of which aren’t real words but you can easily see the meaning behind them.
So in terms of ‘funtertainment’ I can happily say this toy certainly get an A+ grade from me and my little boy. The possibilities are endless with this set.
Overall:
This is an amazing toy that can be made into various different toys either from instructions or directly from the imagination. Not only does it provide fun, it also provides a nursery level of education which is fantastic. I would definitely recommend this toy for both its fun play and educational properties.
