Welcome to my REALVOX Voxman Portable Bluetooth Speaker review. Whilst most portable speakers are the perfect size for a bag, this one is the perfect size for the outside of a bag or even the inside of a pocket.
Design and quality:
The first thing to come to my attention when I first saw this was the fact that it’s shaped like a can, only it’s a lot smaller than a typical can. In terms of size, it’s actually smaller than that certain finger I and many of you have probably shown to someone in the past.
The speaker is available in a few different colors and design. I have the black version, which has the term ‘Realvox Voxman Portable Speaker’ stamped on it. The text is a mix of white and green, which both sit very well against the black paint job.
There’s only one button on this speaker, which is the power button, this is actually very disappointing as it means there are no volume controls or music selection buttons. Instead, all of the control comes from the connected device. This means having to pull your phone out for volume adjustment or changing the current track.
Also present is a MicroUSB port for charging the speaker’s built-in battery which takes about 1 and a half hours to charge. A full charge can provide up to 5 hours of playback at peak volume, according to the product listing. I tested this claim myself and found it to be quite accurate. The speaker lasted slightly longer at lower volumes.
Despite the absence of a 3.5mm audio in jack, this can still be connected to a phone’s 3.5mm jack. This is done using the 3.5mm connector on the two in one cable.
The speaker comes with a carabiner to clip it to a backpack or belt loop, so you can even have it on your bag or pants while using it. I personally haven’t made use of it, but do think the idea is a clever one.
The build quality id fantastic and I am quite impressed with the speaker. I accidentally dropped it onto a solid wooden floor the day I got it, but it came out unscathed thankfully, which is, of course, a testament to the great build quality.
Setting this up with my phone for the first time was as easy as always. Since I am so used to connecting Bluetooth devices I had the whole process done within 30 seconds. If you haven’t yet done this sort of thing, then you’ll be pleased to know the manual provides clear instruction on the process.
The range of this speaker is up to 10m from the Bluetooth source, this means I have been able to successfully have my phone in the front room, while I use the speaker in the kitchen or dining room.
Audio and microphone quality:
For such a small speaker, this produces some pretty good audio that’s clear no matter genre of music is being played through it. The bass level is fantastic, the speaker really packs a punch here. The only thing I don’t like is that the speaker isn’t that loud as it only relies on the volume of the connected device as it has no volume controls of its own.
The microphone is really good and picks up my voice quite clearly and then carries it off to the person I am talking to with no issues at all, even through Skype calls and other internet calling applications.
In one word this speaker is great, it does have a few flaws though, such as the volume level and the lack of control buttons. Other than that though the speaker is great and has certainly surpassed my expectations for a speaker this small.
I received this product for free in return for my honest and unbiased review. This has had no effect on my overall opinion of the product.
