Universal Bike Mount Phone Holder Review: Design

This phone holder comes with two main parts. One part is the mounting clip that secures the holder to the handlebars of the bike. It’s a simple bracket that wraps around the handlebars and tightens to a snug fit with the help of a plastic thumb bolt. Should it not tighten enough due to a thinner handlebar set, there’s a rubber strip included which can be put between the bar and the mounting clip to create a thicker surface. The holder then secures onto the bracket with help from a single crosshead screw. Overall the installation of this was quick and simple, I didn’t even require instructions as it was pretty much common sense.

The other part is, of course, the holder itself. This is made from plastic but does have a rubber coating on the phone holder base as well as the extendable sides, to ensure your phone doesn’t get scratched while in the bracket. There are two buttons on the holder (one on the top and one on the bottom) that are pressed together to release the arms that clutch the phone.

Once these are released, it’s simply a case of placing your phone into the holder and pushing the arms back in until your phone is held securely in place by them. If the phone is already in place when you push the buttons, then you simply lift the phone out to remove it from the holder.

Universal Bike Mount Phone Holder Review: In Use

I have used this bracket on my mountain bike for both road riding and off-road riding. At first, I was, of course, a bit reluctant as I have never used one of these holders before and wasn’t sure whether or not my phone was going to stay in place. The last thing I wanted was to be speeding down a hill and my phone hurtling to the ground at speed. So on my first ride with it in use, before I got to the speedy parts and bumpy areas I rode my bike with care to see how well the holder was keeping the phone secure.

After about 10 minutes I was confident, the holder was doing a good job and would carry on doing a good job. After about 30 minutes of mixed extremely bumpy off-road and not so bad on-road riding, the phone was still sat securely in the holder. The arms hadn’t moved at all and every ride since has been the same, with my phone coming home in the same state it left with me.
