With Android TV boxes becoming ever more popular in household’s across the world, it’s no wonder there has been a sharp increase on the net in the humble mini wireless keyboard. These things are often a life changer after using the standard and most of the time useless remotes included with most Android TV boxes.

The following information is taken from the product listing on Amazon. You’ll notice the brand Bqeel is used here. This is the name of the seller selling the control under their name, but what you get is a branded Rii i8.

Rii i8 mini wireless keyboard design
The Rii i8 mini wireless keyboard is shaped similarly to the letter D sideways. This makes it quite comfortable to hold in my opinion as it each side of it sits nicely against the palms of my hands as I use it.
Despite its small size, there are a load of buttons on here that make it a fantastic keyboard. First is the full QWERTY keyboard complete with number keys that run across the top as well as the typical F function keys. Then on the top left-hand side is a circle or media keys and just to the right of these are four more keys including a power key. On the opposite side is a circle of navigation keys with four more buttons to the left of it. In between these two circular set of keys is a small touchpad similar to what you’d find on a laptop. There’s also a left and right-click button, but these are located down the left-hand side of the keyboard.
I’m really impressed that this one comes with a rechargeable battery, unlike others I have used that require two AA batteries. This means, in the long run, I’m saving money by not having to replace the batteries every few days. So far I have used this for five days and only charged it once and that was when it arrived. Recharging it is simply a case of plugging the included cable into any of the available USB ports on your device.
Rii i8 mini wireless keyboard in use
I have often expressed my hate towards the terrible remotes that come as standard with most Android TV boxes. This remote is obviously a lot better than a standard remote as it’s actually a keyboard and navigation device that works well.
It’s responsive, especially for typing, which used to a pain in the backside as I’d have to sit there moving from letter to letter using the arrows on the remote, but with this, I can simply type them out on a real keyboard. Then there’s the touchpad, which makes navigating the on-screen menus really simple. The media keys are fantastic and allow me to play/pause things, adjust the volume and skip forward or backward on a video or song.
As for the setup, it’s simply a case of plugging the included dongle into an available USB port on your device and turning the keyboard on. There’s no manual setup or extra software included, it’s simply plug and play.
Overall
The Rii i8 mini wireless keyboard is a perfect replacement for the terrible remote that most likely came packaged with your Android TV box. It’s an amazing keyboard that packs so much into itself despite the small size.
