Today I am reviewing the Monstercube Hammer earphones. These are a cheap pair of wireless earphones that come complete with a premium feel.

Packaging:
As with any product you buy the first thing you are going to see when receiving the product is, of course, the packaging and while most packaging is just a box or plastic sleeve these days, you do get the odd things that come in something different and that the case here with these earphones. Instead of a cardboard box or plastic wrapping, these come in a metal tin that has a see through window on the lid. this tin really does add some character to the product and is a welcome surprise.
Design:
Like most wireless earphones, the design of the Hammers is based on the cable running around the back of the neck. This design means the earphones will never get in your way while exercising. As these are wireless there’s no other cable other than the cable connecting the two earpieces together. Just below the right earpiece is a box that contains a MicroUSB port, a microphone, a status LED light and three control buttons. Also located inside this box is the built-in rechargeable battery.
The earpieces themselves look like mini desk lamps in terms of their design, they also have a bit of weight behind them, but surprisingly they don’t feel like they are trying to fall out of the ears when in use. In terms of comfort, I have no complaints at all.
The overall vibe I get from the design of these is a premium feel, they look really nice and the look really does make me think they would cost most.
Setup, connection, reliability and audio quality:
Setting these up with my phone via Bluetooth was an easy job. It took me roughly about 15 seconds to do, but I have done this process quite a lot so I am used to it. If you are unsure or have never paired via Bluetooth before then the manual for the earphones does a great job at explaining how to do it from the earphones side, for your phone though you will need to refer to your phone’s manual.
The reliability of the signal has so far been great for me, I haven’t experienced any real issues with both devices within the recommended 10 meters of each other. I have been able to leave my phone in the front room while heading into my kitchen with no issues at all.
The audio quality produced by these isn’t actually too bad. It’s clear and seamless. The bass is pretty good as well although I will admit there was a tiny bit of annoying distortion if I went to the very loudest volume I could.
The built-in microphone is also quite good, I had no issues using it for a few phone calls using my normal phone and also Skype.
Battery:
These earphones are powered by an 80mAh Lithium-Ion battery that promises between 4 to 6 hours of playback depending on usage. I have found at lower volumes the earphones got around 6 hours while high volumes did get around 4 hours. So the claims here are true, although I would have preferred a battery that could have gotten between 6 to 8 hours instead.
Overall:
I am very impressed with this budget set of earphones, they look decent and have good enough sound, they even come neatly presented in a metal tin box, which I found to be quite a nice touch.
