Edifier XM3BT Multimedia Speakers Review: Design
The main part of this system is the subwoofer, which looks and feels really solid. It’s encased within a black MDF enclosure, with the main driver on the front complete with orange LED lights at each side, a bass port on one side and a control/input panel on the other side. It’s a rather nice looking unit complete with a basic yet stylish looking design.
On that above-mentioned control/input panel you’ll find several media control buttons, a volume dial, a bass dial, a power switch, the plug, an SD card slot, a USB port, two LED status lights, a 3.5mm audio jack, a red and white line in set of jacks and lastly a red and white speaker in set of jacks.
With dimensions of 278 x 230 x 230 mm (W x H x D) it’s quite a large unit, which for me, unfortunately, means positioning it on the floor below my PC desk, rather than on the top, where there’s simply not enough room for it. Luckily the cable that connects the two satellites is long enough for this setup.
In appearance, the two satellite speakers are rather basic and boring to look at as they seem to lack the stylishness of the subwoofer. Like the subwoofer, they do each feature an orange LED light on the front. They also each have a removable front mesh fabric panel, although to be honest, they look better with them on. Removing the covers just reveals a rather basic setup consisting of a main driver and bass port, which in all honesty has a very generic look to it.
A remote would have been nice to have included with this set of speakers, especially since the subwoofer is located on my floor. Anytime I want to adjust the volume or change the mode, I’m having to get down on my hands and knees. Not an issue for people with space on their desk, but a big issue for people like me with no space to spare.
Edifier XM3BT Multimedia Speakers Review: Connectivity
For a budget-friendly set of speakers, the XM3BT set offers quite a lot of connectivity options, which is quite stunning. You have the standard wired option, the Bluetooth options, a USB option, an SD card option and lastly an FM radio option. That’s quite a lot of options considering these speakers cost around about £80.
Connecting this set via Bluetooth to a mobile device is rather quick and easy. The whole process takes about 30 seconds and is well detailed in the included manual for anyone who may be new to this sort of thing.
Playback from a source such as an SD card or USB stick is rather simple. The built-in controls on the subwoofer are used to navigate through your music when either of these sources are in use. These controls can also be used when connected to a Bluetooth device.
The FM radio tuner is rather decent and seems to do a good job of picking up the signal in my area. One issue, however, is that it can become quite fuzzy if I’m sat in front of it. This is most likely down to the fact I have it under my desk, as I have tested it, with it positioned elsewhere temporarily and it worked very well.
When it comes to the basic option of using wires, these speakers seem to do quite well. I have had no issues and they work flawlessly attached to my PC via a cable.
Edifier XM3BT Multimedia Speakers Review: Sound quality
Very rarely do I feel dissatisfied by the audio quality of Edifier speakers, which is why I’m not surprised that these sound really good, especially considering their price. Vocals are constantly clear and every beat is clearly played. There’s no distortion, even at high volume levels, which is a blessing of a high order.
Then there’s the bass from that subwoofer, it’s floor shakingly good with enough vibration to rock your socks off. Of course, it’s also adjustable should you find that it’s too much, or you want a bit more.
When it comes to treble, you get something that’s not awesome but not bad either, somewhere in-between. This isn’t really a problem as that ”somewhere in-between” isn’t bad for everyday use.

With an £80 price mark, the Edifier XM3BT isn’t supposed to blow your socks off when it comes to audio, but it may well be one of the best cheap speaker setups I have ever used. With various connectivity options, a sweet looking subwoofer and brilliant audio quality, it really is a steal for the money.
